Craftsman Passive Solar – Asheville, North Carolina
This passive solar design is set into a sloping, South facing site. In-floor hydronic loops circulate solar heat, from floors on the south face, to other areas for overall heating efficiency. 3D and energy efficiency computer models were used to simulate shading and year round indoor temperatures. Overhangs, and a pergola with deciduous vines, will provide summer shading to prevent overheating.
